Environmental Noise Impact Assessment – How can PDA help?

Environmental Noise Impact Assessments are often required at the planning application stage of any new development or ‘building operation’. This includes demolitions as well as construction, plus new major roads, or inland waterways as well as buildings. The Environmental Noise Impact Assessment is a detailed noise survey which, as its name suggests, assesses the impact of the project on the environment. This survey will need to be carried out to fulfil the requirements of the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2017. As part of the five stages of an Environmental Impact Assessment the Government recommends that the survey is only carried out by experts with evidence of the appropriate qualifications to complete all stages of the assessment. PDA’s role in Environmental Noise Impact Assessments.

At the planning stage, PDA’s team are fully qualified to conduct environmental noise surveys. For residential developments local authorities will often require that a sound insulation scheme to meet the requirements of BS:8233 / WHO guidelines is submitted as part of the planning application. New industrial and or commercial developments may require an assessment to BS:4142 as part of their planning application.

PDA’s consultants have had a lead role in the preparation of the latest versions of BS:8233 and BS:4142 leading to extensive understanding of the standards required. This allows us to successfully engage and involve the local environmental health officer throughout the survey and design process to ensure a positive outcome when the application is heard.
