Chairman and CEO

Phil together with his wife Jane are the founders of PDA Ltd. He is the current CEO and Chairman of the board. He is semi-retired but contributes to the company by chairing the board meetings and by his work as Chair of the BSI’s EH/1 Committee on Acoustics.

Phil sits on several BSI, ISO, and CEN committees responsible for many of the acoustic standards in use today. He has held every office in the Association of Noise Consultants twice with the notable exception of treasurer. He sat on the steering committee that created the Robust Details scheme for residential sound insulation which is the envy of many countries. He is the convenor of the ISO working group developing the soundscape series of standards. Soundscape represents a paradigm shift in how environmental sound is measured and understood.

Phil is co-author of the textbook ‘Noise Control in Building Services’ and has presented numerous technical articles. He is also a co-author of a recent book on Uncertainty in Acoustic Measurements published in 2020.

Phil is a martial artist and holds a black belt in Shukokai Karate, has studied Yang style tai chi, Sun style tai chi, and is currently studying Chen style tai chi. Although unable to play any instruments he is a music addict and a seasoned festival-goer.

Phil has a passion for anything Indian especially the food! He drives a fast car (Morgan Plus4) and flies a Cessna 172 single-engine airplane.

Phil is serving in the role of the President of the Association of Noise Consultants until 2027.
