Hambleton Crematorium Acoustic Design

PDA’s Director and Principal Consultant, Dr Max de Salis, had the pleasure of working with Benchmark Architects in their recent project for Willmott Dixon, Hambleton District Council and the CDS Group.

Dr de Salis undertook the complete acoustic design and successful commissioning for the brand-new Hambleton crematorium on the outskirts of Thirsk. There were several spaces to consider in the design, and the client’s brief was to develop an acoustic space that was uplifting, hopeful and comforting.

In the function suite, a Style 55dB moveable wall has been used with a larger lower specification moveable wall between the service hall and lobby. Slatted absorbent panelling, by 3G Joinery and designed and laboratory tested by PDA Ltd has been used in a hit and miss configuration throughout the site to make sure that each distinct space has controlled acoustics through the flow from the processional entrance to the service hall and out to the external flower court.
